Leading up to the wedding, Joelle made sure that we had everything in place, and during the wedding she made two usually camera-shy people feel relaxed and at ease. Our pictures look incredible - literally every single one. We’ve been getting non-stop compliments about the photos and are so glad that we picked Joelle for our big day!

An old soul with a modern heart

That’s me in a nutshell! When I was younger, I loved to crack open old family albums and look through the photos. I’d soak it all in: the people, the clothes, the emotions, the backgrounds. It was so much fun to imagine the stories behind each image. The time I spent daydreaming through those pages is what made me into the nostalgic person I am today, because there’s nothing quite like looking at a photo from the era of your parents and grandparents to get a feel of what life was like before you came along.

That’s what wedding photography is all about! Not just creating images for your lifetime, but also for the ones that will come after it. As your photographer, it’s a great joy and honor to create images from love stories that will one day live in albums of their own!

Here are some photos of me and my best friend from our wedding day! As a recent bride, I know the feelings of pure joy and magic that stay with you all day long, from getting all dolled up with your closest girls by your side, to when you’re dancing barefoot on the dance floor. I also understand the importance of having a photographer by your side that you can bond with as if you’ve been friends for years.

Oh, and that photo in the middle - sometimes we get to work together, too! Josh is a wedding filmmaker extraordinaire and owns his own business, Millside Wedding Films. When we get to create for the same couple as their photo + film team, it’s pretty great.

Some of my favorite things:
Road trips Our cat named Stevie Nicks Handwritten letters Farmer's markets My husband

A few more! the 1960’s, national parks, discovering new coffee shops, live music, everything at Trader Joes, traveling and the open road, library book sales, Middle Earth (ask me about my tattoo)!, to-do lists, constellations, old typewriters

Music is a big inspiration for me (you’ll probably catch me dancing at your reception)! I grew up with Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles, and grew into Dave Matthews Band and John Mayer. From Lizzo to Led Zeppelin to Zac Brown, I love it all.

Photography Approach

My background in journalism is what has led me to my hands-off approach when capturing your wedding day from start to finish - all that honest and natural stuff: the hugs between your families, the handkerchief attached to your bouquet, the maid of honor shedding a tear, the centerpieces you worked on for hours, the cheers applause from your guests during your first dance. All of the moments that took months and months of planning, all finally coming together to make up the happiest day of your life!

What I Believe:

  • In building trust and forming a connection with you so you feel comfortable both in front of the camera and off

  • That unplanned images tell the best stories

  • That candid emotion wins over posed

  • That love is love is love is love, and it doesn’t discriminate

  • That every love story is different and unique to you. That’s what makes it so remarkable!

  • In working together to create authentic and real images
